Get to Know Siargao

On the East side of the Philippine territory, a tear-drop shaped island can be found. It is known domestically and internationally as a great surfing site for its natural huge waves. This island is called Siargao. Siargao Island is composed of 9 municipalities: Burgos, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Pilar, San Benito, San Isidro, Sta. Monica, and Socorro.

The name of the dialect being spoken by locals in this island is called Surigaonon, where most words with L are changed to Y. For example, the word "balay" (house) in cebuano if translated into surigaonon will become "bayay".

Siargao as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines

Siargao Island is known as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines. Thousands of international and local surfers visit this island to surf and join international surfing cups. Well, who wouldn't be enticed with those gigantic huge waves, right? Every month of September, an International World Cup Surfing Competition will be held in Cloud 9.




Aside from Cloud 9 which is known as the perfect surfing site, Siargao Island also offers white sand beaches, mangrove forests, diving and fishing sites, crocodile farm, waterfalls, underground cave, and a fantastic natural rock formations.

Magpupungko Rock Formation





Magpupungko Rock formation is located in the Municipality of Pilar. The spot is decorated by natural rock formations and the largest is the iconic Magpupungko Rock sitting on top of a flat rock.

Sohoton Cave



This natural reserve site of Sohoton Cave is located in the Municipality of Socorro. The place was teeming with life. Various coral formations can easily be seen because of the crystal clear water. This cave is also known as a jellyfish sanctuary.

Guyam, Daku, and Naked Islets







These three islets (Guyam, Daku and Naked) are Siargao's little jewels that visitors must visit. Spending a day would be perfect for these three treasures. These islets are located in General Luna, Siargao.

Taktak Waterfalls



The gentle bursts of cool, cascading water amid the tranquility of lush vegetation allows the nature lovers to commune with nature. This waterfalls is located in the Municipality of Sta. Monica.

Siargao Island also celebrates different festivals in every municipality, but the highlight of all festivals in this island is the Siargao Surfing Festival.

Siargao Surfing Festival is celebrated every month of September where every municipality joins and compete for the title.
